Canonbury March was composed for the Canonbury Wind Players. It is in the form and style of a military march, with a lively first section and a contrasting cantabile second section, with no da capo repeat. The two flute parts (second doubling piccolo) and contrabassoon parts were an afterthought, added for an occasion when these instruments were available.
